The brief
Calamvale Central wanted their Friday Foodie Night to feel like more than just a night of tasty food and live music — something guests would talk about, photograph, and share long after they’d gone home. They came to us wanting a photo experience that matched the fun, social energy of the night and gave people a reason to linger in the laneway.
What we delivered
We built a custom AI photo booth that turned guests into cute Japanese animated characters, set against an animated backdrop of Calamvale Central’s own Laneway — so the experience felt like it belonged to the centre, not just a generic booth dropped into the space. Food props tied the whole thing back to the night’s theme.
Every guest walked away with two keepsakes: a printed copy of their original photo and a printed copy of their AI transformation, so they had both the real moment and the fun version to keep. The whole experience ran through a custom branded display screen, so guests could watch their transformation come to life, and everything — from the on-screen branding to the follow-up email and a custom microsite — was designed to look and feel like Calamvale Central, reinforcing the centre’s brand at every touchpoint.
We also built a custom survey into the flow, giving Calamvale Central a way to collect guest data alongside the fun — turning a night of entertainment into a genuine marketing asset.
The results
As soon as word spread, guests were queuing to be transformed into their anime alter-egos, giving Calamvale Central a standout activation that got people talking, sharing on social, and spending more time at the event. The branded microsite and email gave the centre a way to keep the conversation going after the night ended, and the survey data means Foodie Night wasn’t just entertainment — it built a database Calamvale Central can market to going forward.
Why this worked for a shopping centre event
Shopping centres compete for foot traffic every night of the week. An experience like this does two jobs at once: it gives guests something genuinely fun and shareable, and it gives the centre a branded touchpoint — screen, email, microsite — that keeps working after the event wraps. Pairing that with a data-capture survey means the night pays off well beyond the laneway.
