The brief
Queensland Tourism came to us planning their 40th anniversary awards night and wanting a moment that lived up to the occasion. This wasn’t a routine awards dinner — it was the biggest celebration in the organisation’s calendar, and they wanted the night talked about for years to come.
The theme was ruby red. The venue was the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. The audience was made up of Queensland’s tourism industry — operators, marketers, hospitality professionals — most of whom would arrive dressed for a black-tie celebration and ready to be looked after.
The brief was straightforward: deliver a show-stopping experience that made every guest feel like a million dollars and gave them content worth sharing.
What we did
We designed a fully custom 360 video booth activation built around the ruby red theme.
The centrepiece was a 3-metre red foil enclosure surrounding the 360 platform, reaching 2.4 metres into the air. It was impossible to miss from anywhere on the floor — exactly the kind of visual anchor an awards night needs to pull guests away from their tables and into the experience.
Once on the platform, guests were invited to grab handfuls of red confetti and themed props before stepping in front of the camera. Every video captured the slow-motion swirl of the confetti against the red foil, the energy of the night, and the ruby red theme running through every detail of the event. We custom-branded the 360 platform itself, and finished every video with an animated ending sequence and a music track curated by the Queensland Tourism team — so each clip felt like a proper piece of branded content, not a raw export.
The full activation included:
- 3m × 2.4m red foil enclosure custom-built for the ruby red theme
- 360 video booth with custom-branded platform
- Curated red confetti and themed props
- Custom animated ending sequence on every video
- Branded music track selected by the client
- Instant delivery to guests via SMS, AirDrop or QR code
- Two attendants running the booth across the activation window
- Private online gallery delivered to the client post-event
The results
In under three hours, the 360 video booth produced 104 fully branded, ruby-red, confetti-flying videos — a video every minute and a half across the activation window.
Every guest walked away with their video delivered straight to their phone via SMS, AirDrop or QR code, ready to share before the night was even over. We watched plenty of guests rewatching their videos at the table, showing them off to colleagues, and queuing back up for a second go.
For a 40th anniversary celebration, that’s the kind of engagement that earns its place in the budget. It turns a high-end awards night into something guests carry with them — a piece of cinematic content that captures the room, the theme and the energy of the celebration in a way a photo never could.
Why a 360 video booth was the right choice
A 360 video booth was the right experience for the Queensland Tourism Awards for three reasons.
It matched the production value of the night. A black-tie awards night at BCEC needs an activation that holds its own against the lighting, the staging and the dressed-up room. A 360 video booth — especially with a custom 3-metre red foil enclosure — fit the energy of a 40th anniversary celebration in a way a tabletop photo booth never would.
It delivered cinematic, share-worthy content. Slow-motion video shot from a moving 360 platform produces content that looks like it belongs on Instagram, LinkedIn and the team WhatsApp chat. For an industry built on storytelling and visual content, that fit the audience perfectly.
It worked for both winners and guests. Awards nights have a built-in moment for content — the trophy in hand, the people you brought with you, the dressed-up energy. A 360 video booth gives winners and nominees a way to capture that moment as cinematic video, with branding sitting in every clip. That’s content the winner shares, their organisation shares, and the awards body benefits from for months afterwards.
